Since this was an "off the cuff" and unpaid production, I shot lots of b-roll and did not plan a follow up shoot.
First thing Al (interviewee) did after I gave him the "go" signal was to step forward which ruined my carefully framed shot. I did not stop him or start over because I knew I could cover it with b-roll.
Voice isolation. One thing you don't hear much of are all the cars in the background revving their engines. That is because of DaVinci Resolve's "Voice isolation" option. I put a little iso on the audio tracks but not much. I actually like all the background noise.
Changing lighting conditions. It was a partly cloudy day with lighting conditions changing by the second. Solution is manual exposure settings. As opposed to auto-exposure. I knew a cloud passing by or a chrome reflection would drastically alter exposure if set to auto.
Overall preperation. For this day I used my go pack or small camera bag. I knew I would be doing only hand held slice of life type shooting and was not expecting to do an interview. So, I did not include any microphones other than what is on the camera. I figured I would be fine with only the camera microphones. However after this I plan to include my wireless lapel mics. from now on.
