AI Animated Avatars Pros and Cons 2025-05-01

Can you believe it took almost a month to create this next AI animated avatar video? It did. I wanted to try out Paul Ponna's new TalkingPhotos app. An AI avatar generator with some pretty cool features. Have a look at this next video to see what I did...

AI Animated Avatars Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Makes prompt based avatars based on a description. Select male or female then describe your avatar. Like this: middle age blonde woman with hair up. Wearing an orange business suit with pink blouse.
  • Upload a picture. You can upload a picture of a real person as a starter image for the avatar. Tailor the avatar with a description. What a cool feature. I made an avatar of myself and was impressed how video takes 10 years off your age.
  • Human, Cartoon, Fantasy Animal and Singing/Dancing avatars are available. With such a wide variety you can make the perfect avatar for your purpose. Even create singing and dancing avatars.
  • Dynamic gesturing The AI generator can detect emotions in your spoken content. Eyebrows, lips and facial movements are automated.

Cons

  • AI degeneration happens if you try to generate an avatar too many times. I had one avatar I really liked until I saw the rendered verion. It seemed too spastic and gyrated into unbelievable gestures. I thought the poor guy had neural disorder. So, I abandoned that effort. However my next attempt had a more polished prompt with only one generation.
  • 25 frames per second. Most videos are produced at 30 fps these ones are at 25fps. I was integrating my video in DaVinci Resolve with footage I shot at 30 fps and it fell apart. This could be a real problem for creators trying to intergrate footage at different frame rates.
  • I tried to use DaVinci Resolve's Magic Mask tool to cutout the avatar from the background and it only worked on 2 of 3 avatars. So, I tried the included Background Remover tool in the app, but it too was not good enough to use.

All in all I would say real positive things about this app. But need more experience with it to think of using it for a customers video, just yet. There are many more pros than cons for this app so I am going to give it a thumbs up with the caveat that you might not always get what you hoped for. On a brighter side the avatar generation is amazing and can only get better. Check it out for yourself here...

Update to Policies page Mission Statement Added 2025-05-10

I was recalling an incident
Timothy Koen Owner of BWT, LLC
I had at a company years ago. Long story short is the first thing I did was read the companies mission statement and signed their NDA (non-disclosure agreement). You should know what the company policies are when you work with them. I then proceeded to map out a strategy to fulfill an RFQ (request for quote) to design a new conveyor system for a tier 1 customer.

I explained how I started by deep diving their engineering database to see what information was already there, that would be applicible to the new project. And a VP (vice president) of the company blew up.

This guy got really angry at me for doing a tried and proven engineering method. He thought engineers should NOT be allowed to scutinize knowledge of past engineering. That it would up-end his authority to control the project. How dumb is that?

Anyways, after explaining why he was wrong and how his attitude could ruin the companies trust, he got even madder and said I didn't know what I was talking about. In the end he got fired and I got the RFQ. Which later turned into several follow on projects from the same tier 1 company.

I explained that the mission statement along with the NDA encourages trust between customers and compaines. And they foster internal trust and idea sharing among the staff and especially the engineers. Without that trust customers and staff, especially the engineers, would flee the company like rats from a sinking ship.

So, I researched modern NDA's and mission statements and added them to my own business. Here is the mission statement I came up with.
